Inspite of promoting the film on such loud and negative idea of faith, I just wonder after three weeks what must be the marketing team of ‘percept’ thinking about the business of the ‘rediscovering faith’ and ‘marketing god’…
Not a single remake has taken the vision of the old film forward and I think finally Remakes is not supported even by gods …
So its proved -Remakes are human- it has to do with 'ego' and 'personal achievement', it has nothing to do with the 'craft' and 'vision of cinema'...
Lets think of some creative titles/films list of films which can be 're-cycled' .
[Except ‘munna bhai’ and ‘krish’ whose remake rights is being already negotiated by the producers and a lead super star of Bollywood…]

or me the whole point of doing a remake is to advance or add to or modernize the story told in the original.
and that happens as you say in very few movies.
the reason to remake a film in a different language, like Yuva or a lot of french fims that where remade in Hollywood is not artisically interesting. Thats is pure commercial interest.
I have not seen Don but from what I read in the reviews Farhan at least tried to "advance" or modernize its story. I can´t say if he succeded though.
Movies I think oculd be remade that come to my mind are films based on novel, because these novels usually leave enough room for a new view on the story. Old original scripts though.. Hmm I guess I have to think about that a bit longer.
Btw. A remake that worked very well for me was Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana becuase it at least partly is a newer take on MPK

i second you on making films on literary works,what exactly i liked in 'devdas' is 'paro' meeting 'chandramukhi'...this was new imagination added by sanjay which looked very plausible and may be sharat chandra must have agreed to it too...
'saheb biwi aur gulaam'and 'guide'are better films then actual work...

You are right. Even movies like "Don" and "Umrao Jaan" simply do not match up with the originals.It only proves the old adage that a copy is a copy after all. The old movie was a super hit.

I think remake is common in film industry and marketing has become mandatory. Without publicity, nothing works fast.

I think it's unfair to compare two different work of art.For any artist or any Director the theme or the script is a medium of expression.I think every one has the right to express thoughts on a given subject the way they want to.We may or may not like it,but I think every story needs to be repackaged for a new generation.
After all movies are medium of telling stories,so why not follow the 21st centuary definition of literacy as given by Tolfer"learn ,unlearn and relearn".

namaste sanjayji, pleasantly surprised to learn who you are. Feel a peculiar pride that you visited my blog and liked it. agree with you about the remakes business. It does reflect the ego of the maker but sometimes it is garbed as a 'tribute' or maybe even as 'i-can-do-it-better' belief. though sometimes it succeeds too. one good example of a remake is 'dil hai ke manta nahi' which to a certain extent is a remake of 'chori chori' which ofcourse was dhapofied from 'Roman holiday' if I am not wrong.
i don't know what you term as vision in a remake because just changes in the sets loud, garish havelis (Devdas) or gadgets and gizmos (Don) don't really reflect the vision do they?

Creativity seems to have suffered a stasis with the passing of RD Burman in music. It's as if the current industry has nothing new left to say. Ironic in a time that India as a whole is in such a state of flux.

asarganj is 13km away from my town 'sultanganj'and one has to getdown at sultanganj station to go to asarganj.i have been there it comes on the way to 'DEOGHAR'.

i give a fcuk about having remakes. Honestly speaking... all that I care about is that a movie should be good, realistic and entertaining. A social message along with it is always appreciated. Look at Rang De Basanti, it wasnt a remake. At the same time, Devdas although being a remake is a great film too. Right now everyone wants to join the bandwagon but if a director feels he can remake a film in a better way, then so be it. i got nuthin against it.
What I really don't like is movies with no head or tail. Just came back after watching Dhoom 2. Hrithik seems to have made his mind to do shitty films. I'm gonna shoot myself if I had to see D:2 again but Jha ji, what genre does ur new film belong to? I havent seen Strings either but i liked PJPSNJ. The one character that I loved in that film was Mahesh Manjrekar's. The scene where Raveena Tandon's husband needs to shit was hillarious. Seriously you should try your hands at a fultoo comedy, it'll rock. Just don't get carried away like Priyadarshan... or a Malamaal Weekly will be made.
